Internet Explorer vs WebBlinds

After incorrectly dealing with a notice of expiration from WebBlinds while attempting to load Internet Explorer, I am no longer able to access IE5 (just keeps crashing). After disabling and then deleting both DesktopX 1.0 and WebBlinds, re-installing IE5 from CD and setting my system clock back (advise from Stardock), nothing I've done seems to help in this problem.

Is there a way to un-install IE5 so that a clean re-install can be performed?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

In 98SE, Internet Explorer is part of the operating system - so there's no true uninstall. But you can try running the following command (provided by John Savill at Windows2000faq.com)

rundll32.exe setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance "C:Program FilesInternet ExplorerSetupSETUP.EXE" /g "C:WINDOWSIE Uninstall Log.Txt"

Click on Start => Run and paste that entire line in. That will start the IE repair tool, which will hopefully correct whatever is blowing up.

Any error messages when it bombs?

Norton Crashguard generated this:

Also, when I attempted your rundll command, it said:

Error in setupwbv.dll
Missing entry:IE5Maintenance

I've also downloaded and intalled IE5.5 only to suffer the same problems.

Can you find IE in Add/Remove programs? If you can, it should present you with a repair option - the same one that the RUNDLL command does.

You can also try renaming WEBBLINDS.DLL to WEBBLINDS.OLD, and see if that does anything.
