Preserving links from Word to PDF (Multiple Files)

This is a combo Word and PDF question. The Word part is mostly connected to Word's esoteric "PRINT" field.

I have two Word files which use the HYPERLINK field to link between them based on bookmarks.

In order to preserve the links after creating the PDFs I have learned that I need o manually change the names of the hyperlinked files to the as yet uncreated PDF. Easy enough. However, how do I create the link so that the PDF opens to the correct bookmark and not simply the beginning of the PDF? I saw on a list a reference to the PRINT field but I don't know what syntax to use and how it can help. If anyone has a solution to this problem I will be most grateful.

    Best,

    David

You will need to do a search online to find out more about this. I once played with this with reasonable success though the way is fraught with frustrations. The key term for a bookmark in Acrobat is 'named destination'. You might also want to search for 'PDFmark'

Then you may find this chapter of a textbook by Thomas Merz will take you most of the way despite being almost 10 years old http://www.pdflib.com/fileadmin/pdflib/pdf...mark_primer.pdf

Thanks so much Andrew. I have managed to get it to work! After much searching, posting and reading I have managed to link two PDFs such that clicking in one opens the other at the correct place. One of the links you sent me pointed me in the right direction, together with the other research I have done.

This is such a common request that I am amazed that it is not documented more clearly. Anyway, I will endeavour to write up the solution when I have got everything working properly.

    Thanks again,

    David
