Windows Mail is Very Slow (Vista Home Premium)

I have been using my 'new' PC with Vista for several months now and I am frequently disturbed at how slow Windows Mail is. I used Outlook Express and WinXP on a much slower PC before this one and OE responded much much faster than Win Mail does. This slowness is particularly noticable when I click Create New Message. The compose window pops up immediately but it takes up to 20-30 seconds before the window will accept an addressee. Does anyone else notice a slowness in Win Mail? I should mention that this PC also has 2GB of RAM, much more than the old PC had.

    Thanks,
    Bill

Are you running any Anti-Virus software that may be monitoring what you are doing?

Can you get TaskManager up and see what may be taking precedence with your CPU? (See <post:=680,675>post 680,675</post:> )

Re: Windows Mail is Very Slow (Vista Home Premium)

I have turned off the active monitoring part of my anti-malware program, CounterSpy, so it shouldn't be using up CPU resources. I just tried watching what was happening while the Task Manager was open and Win Mail didn't seem to be nearly as slow right now! I don't think it is all in my head but I'll pay attention for a while again and see if I can figure out when the slowness is happening. Are you using Win Mail? I hope that someone who actually uses Windows Mail will come in a say that theirs is slow too or it is not slow. I have some other issues with Win Mail that I will post in separate mesages.

    Thanks,
    Bill

You ought to consider Windows Live Mail - Overview. It is the successor to OE & Windows Mail. It looks very much like OE/Windows Mail but is a new program. Hopefully it has left some of the old issues behind.

    Joe,

If I do install Windows Live Mail and decide that I would rather have the existing Windows Mail, can I get back to it, i.e., will Live Mail uninstall if I want to do that?

Yes. Live Mail will uninstall. Actually, you may still see Windows Mail available.
