Word Userform Text Field ControlSource (Word 2003 ver. 11.xxxx SP2)

I need to store values from Word userform text fields in an Excel spreadsheet, and to optionally retrieve that data into those text fields upon demand (when opening a fresh userform). It seems that using the text field's controlsource property is the way to go. My problem is in finding the proper way to connect with and access the spreadsheet, as I find the documentation lacking in this area. Can I get some help on the syntax, please? (An old thread from 2002 did not answer the question.) Thank you.

The ControlSource property of a userform control can only be used if you're working in Excel, not if you're working in another Office application such as Word.

Do you have a compelling reason to use an Excel workbook for this? If so, you'll have to use Automation to control Excel from Word. See WendellB’s tutorial Automation 101 for an introduction to Automation with useful links.

Thanks, Hans. Knew I could count on you....and I wish that Word's VBA Help would have said that.
