Outlook text does not display with Word 2003 (Outlook 2003)

New laptop, new XP SP2 image, new install and client reported they could not use Outlook to send mail. When I remoted in I saw what appeared to be white text on white background. I asked them to see if Word 2003 was set as the email editor, which normally is the default. Word was selected to be the editor so I had them remove the check mark and then the text appeared as normal.

I am curious if this scenario is caused by a corrupt Word normal.dot or if there is another issue when this appears within Outlook.

I am just now starting to research since I'd like to provide the client with the same options that others have, i.e., use of Word as editor within Outlook.

    Thanks.

What Office service pack level? Are these HTML e-mail messages?

Outlook 2003 SP2, Word 2003 SP2, MS patches up to date.

The issue was when the client tried to create messages using Outlook and Word as editor. No font would display, as if white on white but a red underline would appear as if there was a mispelling. I think the line was squiggily red and not straight.

Once Word was deselected as the email editor no problem which is why I am wondering about the NORMAL.DOT.

Tomorrow will be the earliest I can check to see if renaming that file makes a difference or if this issue occurs when I log in to the machine using my profile.

    Also try the following:
Select Tools | Options... in Word.
    Activate the General tab.
    Click E-mail Options...
    Activate the Personal Stationery tab.
    Check the font settings.

Apparently my remote user is content to leave Word turned off as email editor so I have yet to get real feedback on whether they have tried this and they also have not taken the time to have me rename, delete the Word normal.dot template to test for that file's corruption.
