    pages Keep Opening (IE7)

Is there a "logical" reason why if I have an IE7 window open, it suddenly starts opening up tabs on it's Own, without stopping, until I close IE via the Task Manager?

No, I don't think so. Does this behaviour survive a reboot, i.e. close IE et al and restart the PC and check again.

    It could be a result of visiting "bad pages". <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/sorry.gif border=0 alt=sorry width=15 height=15>

Not that I think it has anything to do with this, but have you checked if the start page has been changed to include several tabs?

    It stopped after re-boot etc...

    Oh well, thanks Argus.

I've had this same problem occasionally.
I seems to happen if I double click the icon in the Quick Launch Taskbar by mistake or if I double click a link within IE7.
    It doesn't always happen though.

This occasionally occurs in Firefox, too. It might have something to do with automatically diverting new windows to new tabs on web sites with a very slightly flawed design.

I have this problem also. It only happens occaisonally and I can't pin it down to a certain website or link. I can't stop it with task manager, I have to shut down the computer manually and re-boot. Everything seems OK after that.

I have another computer that I use and it never happens on that one, so it must be this computer. Anyone have any further ideas? Thanks.

I knew if I searched here I'd find my problem, and here you are.

I'm having same issues, it happens to me only when visiting blogspot blogs and when I hit the back button. Task manager is no help, I have to shut down completely. Discussing this with others in another forum, it seems to be a common issue, and others had it happen when in other sites besides blogspot or any blog.

It happened when I was still running IE 6, I skipped 7, but have IE 8 now.

So has anyone figured out what the problem might be?

Is this exactly the same problem of tabs opening continuously until you terminate IE or re-boot the system? Is ti OK after you re-boot the system? Are you clicking on a link that opens a new page before hitting the back button?

Joe, thanks for your reply. Multiple windows open up like fireworks going off, it's the same window opening up to 50 times and task manager cannot keep up with the action. I've been able to use task manager to shut down to around 10 windows, then they start opening up again rapidly. Control Alt Delete does nothing, I finally have to do a hard shut down. Then yes, when I start back up and log on I can go back to the very same blog site and sail through without a hitch.

Now as to your last question, I don't know, to be honest. I haven't had this happen in several weeks, total times it's happened to me.....3-4 over a 4 month period. I just know each time it's happened I've just hit the back button and I've been in a blogspot blog but can't remember if I'd click on a link that opens a new page. Likely, though. since I surf all through links on blogs.

It doesn't appear to do any harm, more an annoyance.

It is really hard to diagnose situations as intermittent as this. Try to keep track of the blog you are on when it starts. You could try clearing your TIF periodically to see if that makes any difference.

I use task manager(end process tree) when that happens and everything seems fine after that, but the fact that it still happens bugs me(just happens a few mins ago). C'mon Microsoft, fix it already!

If you are using IE7, I recommend you installe IE8. The behavior may not change but IE8 is a better browser.

This may not be a Microsoft issue.

Does this happen when you visit a particular web page?

Are you accidentally opening a folder in your favorites as a tab group?
