    Mapping Lost (XP Pro SP-2)

I've lost the mapping of folders on my PC.

I had this before if anyone recalls. The mappings to drives on the other machine on my network are solid and work fine. It's the three on my machine that are gone.

I removed sharing and then put it back and then tried to re-establish the map.

The attached archive is two error messages.

I get the first (top) message box first, then after escaping out, I get the second message.

What could this be? How can I "fix" it?

    Chuck,

Why not start with a search of the Microsoft Knowledge Base, before you ask for help?

Have a look at <!mskb=177078>Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 177078<!/mskb> and see if it helps.

    Stuart:

OK, that seems to have worked. Although, when I got the link, I don't have NT, nor do I use Norton. So I probably would have looked past that KB anyway...

Now, I'm not sure why it helped, what went wrong to start with, or what IRPStackSize controls... but oh well.

    Thanks,

k I too have the same problem - but this occurs to an external hard disk drive on PC1. Peculiarly the internal drives map ok - it's just the exterior one. Any ideas please? I have increased the stack to 27 so far, with no solving of the problem as yet.

OK, the same problem has occurred again! This time on Pc2 and Pc3. In both cases I've increased the IRPStackSize to 51 - still no luck. Can anybody suggest anything please?

According to KB285089 the maximum value for irpstacksize on Windows XP is 50. Did you try setting a value of 50 (it may be using a default value as 51 is greater than the maximum).

I guess your only other alternative is to try and deinstall things that might be using the IRP stack. This includes some antivirus products, or anything else that might be intercepting I/O requests.

    Hi StuartR,
Increased IRPStackSize to 50. Unfortunately Pc3 can see Pc2's E drive but not Pc1's! Really weird. I will uninstall my Avira antivirus and see if that makes any difference.
