    Locate Link Browser (IE 7)

I get a newsletter that has links in it that take you to a certain topic of the newsletter itself. Instead of taking me to that part of the newsletter It keeps coming up with a dialog box "Locate Link Browser." It didn't use to do this. Is there a way to correct this? I thought I asked this before but can't find the answer. I thought it was supposed to be linked to IE 7 but I don't really know how to do that. A search for "IE" comes up with so many finds I couldn't even look through them all. If I'm right about what it is to be linked to how do I do it and to what file name. Is it iexplore.exe?

    Thanks

The Firefox installer sometimes scrambles the settings for links when Firefox is the default browser. But if IE7 is the default browser, I can't explain it.

Thanks but IE7 is the only browser I have. The strange thing is sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. I wonder if it would hurt for me to browse to iexplorer.exe when that dialog box pops up again.

Thanks Hans. I think that is the one I have been trying to find. I will follow those steps and hope it corrects the problem.

Well it was already as that link said to do. I also checked the URL:Hyper Text Protocol Privacy and it too had IEXPLORER.EXE as what to use to open it.

This is still driving me nuts and now even the Woody's Office For Mere Mortals is in HTML format so it is even worse. Any other suggestions since I have done all mentioned here and have nothing to show of it.

    Thanks.

Have you tried pointing to C:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe from the error dialog?

Can you Export this key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTHTTP
... and paste the zipped .reg file here -- so we can look at it?

    Regards,

I just now did and it brings up my Internet Home page. How can I reverse that action?

I'll try. Will it be zipped when I export it. If not I'm not sure how to do that since I have never before used a zip file except one that was sent to me.

    Thanks.

    Alternatively to R2's suggestion:
    - Start Windows Explorer.
    - Select Tools | Folder Options...
    - Activate the File Types tab.
    - Locate (NONE) URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol in the list.
    - Click Advanced.
    - Select Open in the list of actions (it's probably the only one).
    - Click Edit...
    - The dialog should look like the screenshot below. The entire command in the 'Application used to perform action' box is

    "C:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe" -nohome

Re: Locate Link Browser (IE 7)

Hans this is exactly what I did a long time ago and it does not help. I do have one slight difference and it was put there automatically at the end of that entire command it is a %1 after the -nohome. Do you think I should remove that?

I exported that reg file but it won't allow it to be pasted and I have found no way to zip it. Not sure if I have any program capable of sipping it unless there is one in XP that I don't know how to use.

Re: Locate Link Browser (IE 7)

If you right-click the .reg file in Windows Explorer, there should be an option Send to | Compressed (zipped) folder. This produces a zip file.

Yes for some reason it isn't there on this computer so I made it on another computer and will try to attach it here but it may be too big at 1 KB
