    Graphing a Control Chart (2003 - SP3)

Does anyone have any experience creating Process Control Charts in Access? I was thinking about creating a temporary table and populating it with 36 data points as columns (months), then three records of UCL, Measurement Reading and LCL, then graphing it. Is there a better method? I know there are addins for Excel and tools that can be purchased that will read Access data, but this project requires everything in Access and no purchased add-ons.

If you have any ideas or experience you can share it is greatly appreciated.

I'd use a table with a record per month instead of a column, and with the month and the measurement data as columns. Create a query to calculate the statistical values, then another query to combine them with the table, and use this query as row source for the chart. See the attached demo.

Note: instead of the table, you could use a query that aggregates the actual data by month.

    Hans,

The chart shows up in design view, but not in form view. Are there any references I need to set in vb to get it to work?

    thanks,

    Ken

There's no VBA code in the database, so you don't need to set any references.

I have no idea why the chart doesn't show in form view for you, it does for me. You might try deleting the chart and creating it from scratch. It is a line chart with qryData as Row Source.

    Hans,

It DOES display. It just takes a long time to populate the window on the form. The form opens immediately, but then it takes a little over a minute to display the graph. I was too impatient.

    THANKS again. This works GREAT!

If your table(s) contain many records, it will take time to calculate the data needed for the chart.
