BarCoding

    Hi,

Im very new to the world of barcoding and have a process that includes a barcoded document. It would help our business efficiency if we could read that barcode and then duplicate it to labels.

In addition, It could also be useful to bring barcoding into our workflow.

Ive downloaded some trial software that will create a barcode on a label and Ive got a hand held barcode reader, however the reader didnt come with software and I cant seem to find anything that I can download which will enable me to point our reader to a barcode and for the information held within that barcode to pop up on the screen......Is it that straight forward?? If so can someone point me to any good software please??

    Many Thanks.

I would have thought your first port of call would be the supplier/manufacturer of the barcode reader - they must know what works well with it!

Can you give us the details of it in case someone has the same or similar model?

    Hi Leif,

Many thanks for the response, Ive checked the 2 page manual which is rather sparse, and have found a link to what looks like more downloadable info. I'll play around with it a bit later.

The scanner Ive got is a Heron D130.

I'll post back how I get on in case someone else is in the same boat at some point in the future.

    Thanks again.

    Cheers.

OK - they are made by Datalogic - they seem to have a fairly comprehensive literature download area!

    Hi,

A barcoder reader usually reads a barcode then displays it onscreen in whatever application you have open at the time (ie notepad...).

Depending on how complex a job you have, Avery designpro 5 lite (a download from here ) is a good starting point for a cheap solution.

    Re: BarCoding

    Hi Leif,

It all turned out to be quite straight forward in the end. Having contacted the technical support dept, I just had to scan the standard configuration barcodes that came with the reader (which I had done originally), and then open up notepad or word (not mentioned in the instructions),which will then display whatever is scanned.

    Many thanks for your help.

    Cheers.

Glad to hear you got it sorted. But why they should leave out such a fundamental step in the instructions....
