Re: Course Database switch from jpg/gif to PDF (Access 2003/2007)

You could use an unbound OLE control instead of an Image control. This will display the first page of the PDF file. I don't think there is a way to display the entire PDF file in Access, you'd have to open (and print) the PDF file in Adobe Reader or one of the alternative PDF viewers.

Re: Course Database switch from jpg/gif to PDF (Access 2003/2007)

Hans thank you. Is this first page sizeable on the sheet ie the report can set the size of the frame???
Also right now the form to import pictures won't recognize a pdf.
    Can this be changed.?
Can I also set up a second page to the report so it prints the linked pdf first page as a whole separate 8/5 x 11??
    Thanks
    Jerome

I don't think it's possible to make the OLE control resize itself to fit the page.
You will have to change the code to manage PDFs instead of pictures. I cannot view the code in the database, so I have no idea how.

Frankly, I don't think what you are trying to do will work, but perhaps someone else will have a suggestion.

Hans you were kind enough to draw up this database code for me back some years ago I have used it monthly ever since.
Please See the following for the code that you wrote.

the code is there. I would love to switch from jpg /gif graphic format to PDF links. and Have it print as it does multiple pages per entry or if not possible just the first page of the pdf. in the report
And another report where it prints the pdf as separate pages outside of the main report.
    Many many thanks

As I already wrote, I don't think this will work, and I don't know how to make it work. I'd provide hyperlinks to the PDF files.

Hans my apologies, I suddenly realized that the reports had my signature at the bottom, and I tried deleting the attachement, but it would not let me delete

Re: Course Database switch from jpg/gif to PDF (Access 2003/2007)

I have a worpr access database that keeps track of my yearly cme (certified medical education credits) and prints out reports with one or more photos showing the certificates proving attendance. I use this once a month at least. Also the database is created new each year. These certificates are all currently stored as graphic images outside of the database. More and more are now sending as PDFS. I would like to have the Additional Ability or to Switch to PDF storage. The reports would then show either the first page of the pdf or all pages ie 2 types of reports sized within the frames of the report as it does now with graphic images. It would also be nice to have a report that would print the associated pdf outside of the report in full 8.5 x 11 size.
Bottom line is there a way to make this report use PDFS with or without the graphic images as well.
Alls images and pdfs are stored outside of the database with links to them.
THe lounge created this database for me some years ago and it has been WONDERFUL to create reports for all auditing agencies to have as proof of attendance.
    Thanks
    Jerome
