Addin ribbon with unknown macro? (Excel 2007)

    Hi all,

I have a workbook that I open called HR Data. When the WB opens, it creates an Add-In ribbon with a macro button called "Date Stamp". It only occurs in this one workbook. Any other workbook I open does not do this? Where then is this Date Stamp macro, and how is it creating this ribbon. I even checked the Personal Macro Workbook, but nothing is there and no DataStamp macro is in the HR Data worksheet modules either??

Any ideas where this ghost reference is coming from?

Is there any code in ThisWorkbook or in Sheet2?

Absolutely nothing in those modules either. When I click the button it gives this error...

Perhaps it is the Excel 2007 equivalent of an attached toolbar. In Excel 2003 or before, you'd select Tools | Customize..., activate the Toolbars tab and click Attach... to see which toolbars have been stored in the workbook. I have no idea how this works in Excel 2007.

Sure, you can attach the original if you wish.

Here is the original. (Sorry to do this, I do not have Office 2003 on my PC)
Please verify if there is a menu with a DateStamp in it. (If there is let me know which menu it was in. I am trying to recall why this macro was in the workbook.)

Are you sure that this is the correct workbook? When I open it in Excel 2002 SP3, I don't see any custom toolbars or customizations of existing menus/toolbars, and there is no attached toolbar in the workbook.

Yes, I am absolutely sure. I have only the one.

Just to check, I closed Excel, downloaded my own attachment from WOPR and opened it, and again, the Add-In is there?? This is weird!!!
    I dunno if there are any more bright ideas? <img src=/S/drop.gif border=0 alt=drop width=23 height=23>

    Don't hassle!

Just to remind all that the problem was actually solved a post or two ago. "Just save the workbook with a new name and choose OK to the prompt that appears (as above). This removes the addin menu to solve the problem!"

<P ID="edit" class=small>(Edited by Rudi on 29-Dec-07 14:56. Ooops, I notice that in my attempts to understand this issue and find the hidden macro, I forgot to mention that saving the workbook with a new name and selecting OK to the dialog displayed actually solved the mystery macro reference. The addin ribbon does not appear anymore!)</P>OK, here is some light on the subject.

I forced a Save As and renamed the workbook to HR Data 2. Just before saving it activated this message...

If I understand it correctly: Is it informing that there was a macro reference added to a menu command in the original file (created in Excel 2000). Since there are no more menus in 2007, it created an add-in. Now that I mention it, the Add-In ribbon group was called "Menu Commands".

PS: Can I attach the original in another post. If its possible, could you open it and check if this menu item existed? (All content in the file is sample data!!)

    Rudi,
If you right click on that command and choose remove, you can then simply do a save w/o changing the file name and it will permanently be gone.

Re: Addin ribbon with unknown macro? (Excel 2007)

The author of the Workbook has created a custom tab in the Ribbon. This is done in the xml document, not the excel workbook.
