    won't boot

I have a Gateway desktop. It hung when I went to do a restart, so I held the on switch until it turned off and then turned it on again. It won't boot past the Gateway splash screen. It won't boot from the XP CD. If I hold the F1 key down wehn I turn it on, I get a DOS screen showing the chip, RAM, that the legacy Keyboard is detected and usb legacy is enabled, and "entering Setup...". It doesn't enter Setup.

    1) is there anything else I can try?
    2) if it is a hardware problem, how do I find out what it is?
    3) I bought it in 6/03, so is a new motherboard an option? or am I better off buying a new unit? (always a difficult question)

    Thanks.

    Hi John

If you press F8 , can you get the command prompt up?
