    Revamped Vista Start Menu

    Hi all,

While looking for some specific software, I stumbled upon this utility. It changes the standard Windows Vista Start Menu into a completely revamped menu. If you don't like clicking on the folders to reveal the subfolders, I think you may enjoy this structure. If you have lots of directories, it does help using this new format. Test it out and see for yourself. Below is the software description from the download site.

The home page for this utility has got a lot more information including a video clip of the utility in action.

In spite of its name this utility is not just for Vista, it also works in NT, 2000, 2003 and XP.

    Re: Revamped Vista Start Menu

Are you using the pro version or the free version?
If its the free version I would like to know if you know how to remove items from the top of the first (main) menu. I have Paint and FrontPage listed in that menu and I cannot find were or how to remove them from that menu since they already are in the program menu?

    Let me know...
    Cheers

Thanks to Rudi-Tony-Bob for the pointer. I've downloaded this one and plan to give it a spin too.

    Rudi,
I have the free version also but according to their forum FAQ,

"Yes you may edit it in the PRO version, and tabs too".

So it looks like no edit for the free version?

Hey Rudi, could you make a clip shot of what your question is about, please? I just installed this one too and am playing around with it and not sure of what you mean by the top of the main menu. Here's a clip of mine - are you talking about the upper left corner?

    Re: Revamped Vista Start Menu

    Hi all,

Tx Viking and BigAl. Here is the screenshot on my PC. As you can see, I have Paint, NotePad and FrontPage in there (squared in red) that I do not want as it is availabe in the sub menus. From what I can gather, these entries may be there because I had them pinned in my Windows Menus when I installed this app. I dunno if this is the reason...I'm just trouble shooting. BTW Viking, I am 99% positive that I had a fourth entry listed ... just above the Frontpage enrty. That is NOT there anymore. I think it was removed as I was moving shortcuts around in the StartMenu folder in my profile. Somehow, Frontpage, Paint and Notepad must be listed somewhere where I have not been doing cleanups.

If you rightclick in the submenus, it gives an Explore option and when clicked it takes you to the directory where those shortcuts are housed. Moving them or createing new directories obviously affects how the menu looks the next time it is activated. So I have remodeled the menus extensively to categorize my commands. It must have been while I did this that somehow I removed a shorcut that was sitting in the MAIN menu. So it seems it 'can' be modified?? <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>. I am aware of the FAQ's where the Pro version can be further adapted, but since the entire menu is based on your PC's file structure, it must be possible as I think I have discovered.

PS: Only the pro version allows more tabs to be created, but I have modelled the "Quick Start" menu to contain some of my often used shortcuts.
Also: Does anyone know where to put shortcuts so that they show in the "Autoruns" menu?

    BigAlDoc,

Not to pry into your personal, but I noticed in your picture that you have "AutoIt". I downloaded that about 3 weeks ago and tried it out but I have no idea how to use it. It seems very complicated. Most of it seems to be program code orientated wher I was hoping to be able to record keyboard and mouse actions an have the appl. create to code for me, must like recordring a macro in Excel. Does AuotoIt actually allow recording, or is it all code orientated?

    I just found out how...
Put the file into the StartUp folder under your profile.

    Re: Revamped Vista Start Menu

From your other posts, I'd say you're way ahead of me with the start menu stuff. After installing and playing with it for a SHORT time, I decided I don't need it (yet) and turned it back off.

AutoIt is a Windows scripting language that really isn't too complicated but I don't really use it very much. There are two or three other Loungers who are much more proficient with it than I am.

Tx, I see <!profile=AlanMiller>AlanMiller<!/profile> is the guru on AutoIt, I will ask him.
