Missing KB article (MS Word 2003)

Here's a curly one, we have a problem with file extensions, which is covered in MSkbid=163766, which is no longer available, anywhere on the web where these old knowledge base articles may be stored? (covers early MSWorks files *.wps being saved as MSWord *.doc files) Cheers.

What do you want to do? Open .wps files in Word, or ...?

Re: Missing KB article (MS Word 2003)

G'day Hans, it is in response to a MSWorks query in another forum I belong to. I use *.wps daily and have literally thousands of *.wps files, and it is rather concerning as there appears no solution, (I am aware that MS have abandoned the *.wps format in 2006) I append the OP query...
Myself and a number of my friends who use MS Works 4.5a cannot save our Works Word processor documents in the native *.wps file format. This is a
new phenomenon. It has been working correctly on our WinXP machines for years. What update/program could have caused our Works WP docs to save in
the Word *.doc format? If I rename the files back to *.wps, they work correctly. It gives a warning but I ignore it. Is there are Works (or Word) MVP's out there who could solve this dilemma? Jeff

That thread (Works 4.5a word processor saves with DOC extension) is the only one I can find; if Michael Santovec's reply doesn't help, I have no idea.

I have multifocals for "normal" use (but not when working with a computer)

Maybe http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938810/en-us covers what you are asking about. Slashdot says today that Word 2003 SP3 stopped support for some older file formats. There is a workaround.

Cheers JTill, I'll pass this on, and certainly keep this for myself. "wps" is not shown, but the registry advice may offer some assistance (after appraisal of the MS doc) thanks very much. Rod
