Checkerboard

Here are 8 pieces cut from a checkerboard (8x8 squares of alternating color). Try to arrange them so that the red king is able to capture all of the black checkers (by leaping over them as is done in checkers) in one turn.

How about this?

I put all the black disks on top of each other. Now the king can just jump over the bunch in ONE go! (If he has a pogo stick!)

Steve, on a more serious note...can the board slices be rotated? or is it just a matter of rearragement?

You can rotate and rearrange it if you like. Treat it like a "physical puzzle": you have 8 pieces of the board and need to make the checkerboard. I recommend printing and cutting them out...

I don't think you can. The best is to do what you did and zip it!

Excellent.

I have seen a couple of other variations in the arrangements of the pieces, but the final layout of the checkerboard's red and black checkers seems to be the same (the red at the corner of a 3x3 grid). {I have never solved it so it looks any differently)

But, itt is possible to get it arranging the pieces in a different manner.

For example, in addition to the 90° rotations of the board or the switching of the identical pieces D/G or B/E:
you can lower FH as it is set up and put C under H to have another "right half" variant
You can lower BE/G and put D at the top for a new "left half" variant.
