Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Ed

Good afternoon -
The person who had helped us set up our new computer installed SymantecAntiVirus Corporate Edition (Symantec AV to VPC32, Full edition).. We have 2 folders in Program Files: 1 labeled Symantec with 4 files; the 2nd labeled Symantec AntiVirus with 2 folder 64 files.

Only 1 person uses this computer. Is this overkill? Would we be equally (better) off with, say AVG?

How many computers are there in your company? If only this one, the Corporate Edition is probably far too expensive - it is meant as a site license (I think it starts at 5 users).

As I mentioned, this was installed for us. I only recently noticed it was a Corporate Edition. It was installed on only 1 computer, for only 1 computer.

That being said, do you suggest we delete it and go with another AV program?

I suspect that this product may not be licensed for your use. Large companies buy SAV CE for deployment internally, but the license would not normally allow someone to install it on a home PC of someone who was not an employee.

It would probably be a good idea to remove this and install a product such as AVG.

I agree with Stuart - the corporate edition of Symantec AntiVirus is not intended for home use. I'd remove it and install another anti-virus program such as AVG Anti-Virus and Internet Security (free and paid versions) or Avast (free for home use).

I would agree with Stuart that the installation is probably not licenced for your use and that you will have no end of problems when you want to update the definitions or the product itself when the licence for it does expire.

If you are going to remove and replace it, I would recommend using the Symantec Removal Tool to avoid any problems.

And, then, after using the removal tool, check your registry for remnants of Sygate and Semantec, and delete them. See <post#=685,682>post 685,682</post#>.
