There might be a conflict with security software.
    - Which anti-virus software do you use?
    - Which software firewall do you have?
    - Do you use MacAfee SiteAdvisor?

    John,
I don't know if this is the help page you were trying to look at but,
    ----------------------------------------------------
My computer slows down when I log in
If you're using Internet Explorer 7.0 (IE7) and your computer slows or your CPU usage spikes during or immediately after signing in to Gmail, the cause is likely to be McAfee Site Advisor.

While we work to resolve the issue, please use these steps to resolve the problem:

    Open IE7.
Click the arrow on the SiteAdvisor toolbar icon.
In the SiteAdvisor menu, click Do not warn list....
In the SiteAdvisor dialog box add google.com.
    Click close.
    Close IE7.
Open IE and log into Gmail.
    --------------------------------------------------

If it's a different page, let us know and try to post it for you.

Long ago, there was a time when men cursed and beat on the ground with sticks. It was called witchcraft.
    Today it is called golf!

Re: G-mail frozen (XP SP 2)

I gave up on the clunky webmail access long ago. Now I use the happy GMail and Thunderbird IMAP combination to access my accounts. Might be worth a shot if you continue having problems - easy to set up and USB portable too!

Thanks for your good advice!I had to call tech.help, who fixed my computer, that developed other problems due to my silly tries to fix the initial one. This tech.'s first move was to download IE 7(which I carefully avoided in the past-being scared of all changes)-goes to show you what a dummy looks like(me!).
thanks again, you guys are invaluable in helping people like myself(too old to learn new tricks).

thanks for your response.I needed prof.help, because I messed up my computer while trying to get rid of a small problem(relatively, with the G-mail).This tech.suggested Thunderbird but I am too old to learn new tricks(70 yrs old)and was scared of an entirely new system. So he downloaded IE 7 and fixed my computer in 1 1/2 hours.
Thanks for your help,it is most valued by dummies like me!

    Glad the problem is solved!

For the future: it isn't necessary to post individual thank-you notes to everyone who replied to your question. You can reply to one of them (just pick one), and mention that your reaction is intended for all. (See <!rule=07>Rule 07<!/rule>)

Glad your general problem was solved. The Thunderbird idea is probably unnecessary now, but if you need "individualized" help with any new & daunting issues, like trying out a new application, the Lounge is the place to come! <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
