    Files Go Blank (Word 2007)

A new user of Word 2007/Vista is finding that her Word files seem OK while she is working, but sometimes appear blank when she opens them again. The byte size has not decreased at all; the file becomes just one blank page. The same files look OK in Word 2003. If I save them as RTFs in Word 2003, and send them back to her, they are OK again. They can be saved as DOC files in Word 2007. If I copy and paste the contents to a blank file in Word 2003, that will also fix them for her.

Has anyone heard of this. What might be causing this?

    Thanks.

Is the document really blank, or have the contents become invisible? She can test by trying to select text with the mouse, or by pressing Ctrl+A to select the entire document. If the contents are there but invisible, they should be highlighted in black.

The contents are not invisible. Nothing is there. It says there are thousands of words, but you can only see one blank page. There is no place to even insert your cursor.

That's serious! She could try Phil Rabichow's <!post=Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word,197827>Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word<!/post>, keeping in mind that the default template in Word 2007 is called Normal.dotm instead of Normal.dot.

    Thanks, will try that.

In any case, the files can be fixed from inside of Word 2007 as well. Save it as RTF, but it still looks blank. Close the RTF, and open it again. When Word opens the RTF, the file appears as it should be. Then the RTF can be saved as a "Word 97-2003" DOC file that looks OK after it is closed and opened.
