    Cell colors question (Excel XP)

    Hey all.......happy new year!!

Can someone tell me if it's possible to have a cell automatically change color dependent upon either it's or another cell's contents?

For example, if A1 is a negative number I'd like the contents of A2 to be RED. If A1 is a positive number I'd like A2 to be GREEN.

In addition I have the complication that A2 contains a formula that must be maintained.

As always your help is sincerely appreciated.....

Happy new year to you too!

    You can use conditional formatting:

    Select cell A2.
    Select Format | Conditional Formatting...
Select 'Formula Is' from the first dropdown list.
Enter the formula =A1<0 in the box next to it.
    Click the Format... button.
Activate the Font tab, and select red from the dropdown Color palette.
Click OK to return to the Conditional Formatting dialog.
    Click Add >>.
Select 'Formula Is' from the first dropdown list.
Enter the formula =A1>0 in the box next to it.
    Click the Format... button.
Activate the Font tab, and select green from the dropdown Color palette.
Click OK to return to the Conditional Formatting dialog.
Click OK to close the dialog.
