Stopping Apple Updates? (XP SP2/QT 7.3.1)

I have installed Apple Quicktime but I have done so without installing iTunes which I really, really don't want on my PC yet every so often up pops this Apple update dialog offering me an install of Quicktime & iTunes and I just want it to go away. To be perfectly honest I don't care to update this kind of software regularly, I'd simply prefer to do it manually when I feel there is a need.

Does anyone know if there is a way to switch this service off (I can't even find any service that's apple related on my PC) as I'm beginning to wonder if my only way out is to remove Quicktime altogether!

In the QuickTime Player, select Edit | Preferences > QuickTime Preferences...
    Activate the Update tab.
Clear the check box "Check for updates automatically".
    Click OK.
