Cells with many characters (Excel2003)

I know there are some limitations to the amount of characters an Excel cell can hold. I know that when there are too many, the content in the formula bar still displays OK, but the cell (with wrap -text enabled) no longer accurately sizes and one has to do that manually. Today I was asked to help in a situation where someone needed 5400 chars (!!) into a cell. The formula bar still was OK, but the display in the sheet could no longer be make to work and display all (with a the limited width of the column we have as a restriction). I provided a workaround by putting the text in a text-box and nicely aligning that on top of the cells.

Are there other ways to deal with this? (Oh and I know that Excel was not made to do this)

The limit in Excel 2003 is 1024 characters displayed in a cell. Your workaround is probably the best one.

This has been increased in Excel 2007 to about 32,000 characters displayed in a cell.

I dunno if this is a joy or a curse, but I noticed that Excel 2007 allows 64 nested levels to its functions...

PS: Reading through Excell 2007 limits and specs makes for quite an interesting read!

It will take quite a bit of work (or maybe just a poorly designed spreadsheet) to reach quite a few of the new limits
