    Features Missing In Action (2007)

    All,

On the powerpoint board this morning, I read <post#=687641>post 687641</post#> about how using SHIFT+line draw no longer gives a horizontal or vertical line in PPT 2007 and Excel 2007.

With every new release, we always look for the list of new features. This is just the opposite request!

Is there a list for Office 2007 of things we can't do anymore, or at least not as easily with work-arounds? Can people using 2007 help create such a list here?

With respect to the above powerpoint item, I depend on using SHIFT+line draw in PPT quite a lot. The suggested workaround was to use the Snap to Grid. I never use the Snap to Grid. Hans mentioned the graphics engine in PPT 2007 and Excel 2007 has been dumb-downed. But Word 2007 still allows this (until SP 99). I was already dumb-downed in terms of drawing straight lines; that's why I depend on SHIFT+line draw.

This is the 2nd thing I've heard of in the last few days. I think there was something a few days ago discussing customizing "toolbars".

I have a copy of Office 2007 but have not installed it yet. Things like this make me not want to bother.

    TIA

    Fred

Access MVP Allen Browne has posted a useful overview of improved, broken, new and lost features in Access 2007 on his website: Microsoft Access tips: Converting to Access 2007.

There's a list of features removed from Excel: Deprecated features for Excel 2007, and from Excel charts: Deprecated Features For Charting. Note that this is an MSDN blog from 2006, so it might not be 100% accurate.

Microsoft has a webcast Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 deprecated features. It lasts 1 hour, but you can also download a PowerPoint presentation.

Added: this might be handier: Discontinued features and modified functionality in Outlook 2007

You'll find a short list of discontinued features in Powerpoint 2007 in Microsoft® Office PowerPoint 2007 Step by Step.

    Hi Hans,

You must have been busy after my original post this morning (morning here on the east coast of the US).

I only had a chance to check this one post of yours on O'Reilley's list. It did NOT mention what got this started in the first place - the SHIFT+line draw. I know it was advertised only as a short list but I didn't really care about any of those. I'll have to take a look at the items in your other posts.

    THks.

And this one didn't say anything about removing SHIFT+line draw from Excel either.

    Thanks again.

I'll skip the Outlook and Access references since I probably wouldn't miss anything from them.

As I already mentioned in <post:=687,883>post 687,883</post:>, I don't think the list you want exists.

I'm hoping people write in as happened to kick this off.

See <post:=688,411>post 688,411</post:>. The SHIFT+drag constrains the line at 15 degree increments from the starting point.
