    ZAlarm and email

Just installed Zone Alarm Pro and find that it interferes with my Outlook Express, sending and receiving mail.
I shut down ZAlarm and my emails went. What settings should I use to allow the sending and receiving of emails?

Thanks in advance for all assistance.

Check to see if OE is allowed in the firewall Program Control settings. <img src=/S/crossfingers.gif border=0 alt=crossfingers width=17 height=16>

If you check in ZA help, you will be directed to the user manual if you haven't already got it and read it.

Zone Labs also have their own User Forum where I am sure you will find plenty of answers and tips.

    Re: ZAlarm and email

Checked user manual previously, and found nothing about allowing email providers. I joined the forum right after the installation, I will ask for the correct configuration for allowing email there, thanks for the reminder.

I opened Mail Washer, had to close ZA before mail would download.

Opened OE and it said that there were no messages (and this with ZA disabled). I'm replying using Mail Washer, since OE is not available.
I always seem to have problems with Firewalls, even right out of the box.If I can't find how to use OE, the next step is to remove Zone Alarm Pro.

That's not possible Gloria. MailWasher DOES NOT do email - it only monitors your incoming mail. You've NOT got ZA setup properly as has been pointed out above. You need to tell ZA which programs are authorized, what the settings are for your router and it will not hamper your receipt of email, whether using OE, Thunderbird or any other client software. You've not completed everything you need to do with your "new" ZA installation.

    Re: ZAlarm and email

It certainly IS possible, in fact more than possible.

It's fact. I'm using Mail Washer Pro and when the mail downloads I can read it, if it contains a link I see this message: Your browser is about to load the following link. http://www.wopr xxxxxx and ends with Numbers=688278. Mail Washer Pro cannot ensure that this link is not malicious, tracks, or identifies you. Do you want to open this link?"

That is what I have to do to read each and every email I get.

Have you read the MailWasher documentation about what you're doing?

    Re: ZAlarm and email

Why should I have to read it? I've been using Mail Washer Pro for over 2 years and I've always been able to answer mail from it before it loads into Outlook Express although I very seldom read mail from it. Because I have no choice, at the moment, I choose to at least be able to view and reply to my mail. If I had not done it this way, I would never have seen your post or others that was delivered to me today. I even read the Lounge's notification of new posts this way.

Can you post a screenshot of the screen you're looking at when you say you're reading / replying by using MailWasher? That would help us understand what it is you're doing.

    Re: ZAlarm and email

I apologize for my late reply, I moved to another state and my computer was down until today. The Zone Alarm problem has disappeared and I now download my emails with no problem. I have no idea how the problems was solved, perhaps because I no longer have Comcast Internet Service. Comcast's not available until the 8th of February, my new server is Viking (which has been purchased by Comcast, but Viking's customer can not be absorbed until a ruling by the FCC.

Please consider the post closed, and I thank you for trying to help me.

    Hi Duchess843,
Yes, you can use Mailwasher to reply before the mail is downloaded into OE, but it uses your default email client (OE in your case) to send email. You'll know this because all your replies will be in your OE Sent Mail folder.

    Edited to add
Ooops - didn't see that you'd asked to consider the thread closed.
