    Date and Time in Word (2002 (SP3))

    Can anyone tell me how to correct the following problem? When I click on Insert, Date and Time, the common format January 14, 2008 is missing from the list. I don't know how to restore the list so that format is available. Thank you in advance for any help.

    The Date and Time dialog has a language dropdown (see screenshot below). Which language is shown by default?

    Sorry, I should have known to include that information. It is English. And thank you for your prompt reply.

    But does it say English (US), or another variant of English?

    I don't know the cause of your problem, but it's not difficult to insert a date field with the desired format:

    - Press Ctrl+F9 to insert field braces { } (don't type the braces yourself).
    - Type <code> DATE @ "MMMM d, yyyy"</code> between the braces, so that you see
    <code>
    { DATE @ "MMMM d, yyyy" }
    </code>
    - Press F9 to hide the field code and to update the field.

    Note: the upper case Ms in the date format are obligatory, the M stands for month, while lower case m stands for minute.

    Yes, it is English (US). If no one knows the correct solution, I'll try to create a macro to insert the field code and put it on the user's toolbar. The user is a very busy attorney and I'm sure she won't want to go through the whole process of inserting the braces and field code with switches just to get the correct date in a document. There must be a file missing from her network profile or something. I'll keep researching the problem. But thank you for the prompt suggestion.

    Another possibility is to create an AutoText entry. The following will only have to be done once on the attorney's PC.
    - Insert a date field with the desired formatting as described in my previous reply.
    - Select the date field.
    - Select Insert | AutoText | New... or press Alt+F3.
    - Provide a name, e.g. TheDate.
    - Click OK.
    - You can assign the AutoText entry to a custom toolbar button and/or a keyboard shortcut.

    The problem might be caused by her regional settings or by a problem with Word. I don't know if it's serious enough to warrant close investigation; if so, you might check out Phil Rabichow's <!post=Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word,197827>Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word<!/post>.

    The AutoText solution is particularly helpful as a work around until we find the permanent solution. I will check out the troubleshooting manual, too. Thanks again for the suggestions.

    I believe you can customize the Insert Date and Time dialog menu by typing new entries on the Short date format and Long date format boxes on the Date tab of the Regional and Lanquage Options menu. Sorry, I don't know the exact steps for Word 2002.
