    Picture path in merge (2000/2003)

    Hello,

    I have a word document that needs to display pictures from hard disk depending on fields in database.

    If I put paths to the pictures in the database, and retrive that path with merge fields, is it possible for word
    to automatically insert the picture?

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

    Yes, you can do that, using nested fields. You will have to display field codes (Alt+F9) to create the field you need. Normally, when you insert a merge field, the field code looks like this:
    <code>
    { MERGEFIELD PicFileName }
    </code>
    A linked picture field looks like this:
    <code>
    { INCLUDEPICTURE "C:ImagesEagle.jpg" d }
    </code>
    You can combine them like this:
    <code>
    { INCLUDEPICTURE "C:Images{ MERGEFIELD PicFileName }" d }
    </code>
    Keep in mind that you shouldn't type the field braces { } yourself, press Ctrl+F9 to insert them or use Insert | Field...

    Press Alt+F9 to hide the field codes again when you're done.

    After running the mail merge, you may find that some or all of the pictures haven't been updated. If so, you'll have to select the entire document and press F9 to update all pictures (and other fields).
