Cannot remove MSoft's templates (2007 (original))

microsoft templates

There appears to be no way to uninstall the templates which shipped with Word 2007. There isn't a firm I consult for which would use them and they are the default view in the New task pane. Erk.

I can still evoke the old New dialog in one of two ways. I have a macro that bypasses the task pane and simply displays the New dialog, BUT with the Word 2007 templates and tabs. Or I can display the New file task pane, then click "My Templates..." on the left, and display the old New dialog with only my templates and tabs therefor. See my screenshots.

I would like to be able to display this second dialog without having to plow through the New task pane; as I've said, there's little use for the msoft templates. But for the life of me, I can't figure out how. Has anyone cracked this?

Thanks,
Kim

From the newsgroup thread Removing templates that come with Word 2007 I get the impression that it isn't possible. But I don't have Office 2007, so I can't test it myself.

Yes, that's the conclusion I had reached after much searching, so I'm hoping to find a way to simply bypass them by invoking the second of the two dialogs in my illustration above. I'll keep poking away at it, and will post any discoveries.

But maybe someone more clever than I will ferret out the secret of displaying the "clean" dialog, rather than the crowded one...
