    cell pointer moves toolbar (Excel2000)

I cannot duplicate this now, but I was not drunk a few minutes ago:
I have a small toolbar in Excel 2000, and it was sited entirely within a column of regular data.
I advanced the cell pointer by using the cursor keys up- and down-arrow, and as the cell-pointer reached the edge of the toolbar, the toolbar was bulldozed in the direction of the cell pointer for one cell depth.
This happened both from above and below!
In the attached example, an up-arrow would move the cell pointer from "groceries" to "dues", and the toolbar would move a millimetre upwards. A subsequent up-arrow would move the toolbar to the boundary of the next higher cell.

I was so surprised to see this that I reloaded Execl to see if it worked in an empty workbook; it did not.
I then re-opened the original workbook and am currenbtly unable to duplicate the effect.
I am unaware of any setting that links a toolbar to a cell pointer.

The toolbar isn't linked to any cell or to the active cell. The programmers try to keep the active cell visible by moving a floating toolbar out of the way as you move around.

That may be so - but how come I've not seen this behaviour before in ? 10 years?
It took me quite by surprise.
Furthermore, I cannot duplicate the behaviour

Perhaps you never used floating toolbars? (I always have them docked at the top or bottom of the application window)

The behavior is 100% reproducable in Excel 2002...

Yes, it works that way in 2003 too, but . . . when I tried it in Excel 2000, which is the version Chris is using, the selected cell just got hidden behind the floating toolbar, then came out the other side.

So presumably the nudging of the toolbar was introduced in 2002 .. . . so why did it work for Chris just that one time?? Ahhh, the mysteries of Microsoft!
