    Corrupt MP3 Files

I have some MP3 files, at least they are files with an MP3 extension. When I look at their details there is no information as to Bitrate or track length. Does anybody know of a program that will let me verify that these are actually MP3 files? I have trawled the net but to no avail.

Have you any ideas about what they may be? You could always try changing the extension (on copies) to .wmv or .wma (for example) and see if WMP will play them, (although I suspect WMP would attempt to play them anyway if it recognised something in the format).

WMP should play them. If MP3 is associated with WMP just double click the file. If not just open WMP and drag 'n drop the file onto the player.

Adding to Leif's idea, also see if renaming them to .WAV allows them to play.

    Corrupt MP3 Files

Thanks Leif, Joe and John. I tried renaming these files with various new extensions and with varying results. None of which worked.

Back tot he drawing board I guess. Select All --> Delete comes to mind.

    Re: Corrupt MP3 Files

I found this download that "could" help to verify the file type. I have not used it before and cannot verify its effectivity. If you give it a try and it solves the problem identifying the file type, let us know. Other loungers could also find it useful.

See: File (for Windows) - File: determines file type - Version 4.21
