USB Modem (XP)

I am having a challenge with a USB modem driver (for a cell phone) not being reconginzed by the Device Manager. I can install the USB modem driver sucessfully (well it told me it installed properly), have rebooted and still am unable to see the modem listed in the Device Manager.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

More information is necessary. What is the make/model of the phone, and what software are you planning to use to communicate with the device?

With most USB devices, the device should not be attached when you install the software. You should install the software, re-boot if needed, then attach the device. So, if the device was attached when you installed the software I'd uninstall the software, then unplug the device, re-boot and start with install the software.

Thank you for your comments. After a long pause....from the <img src=/S/compute.gif border=0 alt=compute width=40 height=20> I was able to determine that the power/data cable is only a power cable and therefore is not detected. If I change out cables to a data cable, I am able to see the cell phone.

The cable is even marked power/data <img src=/S/yikes.gif border=0 alt=yikes width=15 height=15>

My USB Phone Modem requires that I always put it into the same USB slot. Any attempt to use the modem via a differetn USB slot causes havoc.

Don't feel bad... we've all had moments where we made a stupid mistake, then looked over our shoulders to make sure no one noticed. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> I try to do that once a day. At least you got it figured out!
