    bird expanded folders (Thunderbird 2.0.0.4)

How do I force TBird to expand folders on entry?
In my previous installation it fired up with all folders on view, now (after a re-install) I must click on the plus sign to see all my folders.
A Google search on Thunderbird expanded folders doesn't seem to help.

I must admit <img src=/S/blush.gif border=0 alt=blush width=15 height=15> after all these years of using TB, I don't have any idea why the Local Folders entry is there and what it's used for, Chris. When I installed TB, I setup two new "accounts" that I regularly use for my email, as well as a couple of news servers that I occasionally refer to. The attachment shows my ISP email account and the mail account at my web domain, both with a red blob for a little privacy. It is into these two accounts that all my regular emails are received. I don't even know how to use the Local Folders.

Anyway, I have MANY sub-folders in each of those two shown primary "accounts" and when I expand any or all of them and close down TB, they will re-open in the same expanded state that they were when I shut it down.

Why have you not done something similar and, where in the local folders account settings to you have the server names, etc. that let you receive emails there?

Exactly. That's what USED to happen until about a week ago. Now, regardles sof what i do, the tree always presents itself in the 'closed"state.

AFAIK There is no special significance to Local Folders in my stated problem.
I use local folders for all incoming mail aco######s so that i don't have to keep running backwards & forwards; that is, all Incoming mail loads into a single InBox in my Local Folders.

Did you re-install into a 'clean' pc? - or was it a re-install over a previous version of Thunderbird?

    Non-clean.
I re-installed Windows (thereby clobbering C:Windows, perhaps), and then reran the setup.exe for my application programs, Thunderbird among them.
My Thunderbird folders remained intact (G:GreavesAdminThunderBird).
I am never quite sure what remains of the registry and various other files.
One of these days i must learn how to make a bootable CD so that I can delete C:WINDOWS and C:Program Files before a reinstall, or better yet, format the hard drive first.
