Normal.dot error when starting Outlook (Outlook 20

    Hello there!
I have to deal with a strange phenomenon here: One of our users is receiving following error message each time she OPENS up Outlook: "Word can't save the file, because it is already in use in another session. (C:...TemplatesNormal.dot)" (Translated from german)
The feature "Use Microsoft Word as E-Mail Editor" is deactivated. Once you clicked OK on the message it won't show up until you close and re-open outlook. There aren't any other programs opened.
    You have any clues?
    Philipp

Have you re-booted the PC? Have you used Task Manager to terminate any Outlook or Word process that may be still be running?

    Hi Joe!

Yup, I've tried. No process is running, besides the obvious of course. <img src=/S/sarcasm.gif border=0 alt=sarcasm width=15 height=15>

Either it is inuse by a background process you don't recognize or it is corrupted. See these articles and threads - WD2000: How to Resolve Problems with Running Multiple Versions of Word on the Same Computer (paragraph - Why do I get a message that the Normal.dot file is in use by another application or user?), Another Process Uses Normal.dot When You Automate Word, IT Forums: Normal.dot file in use, and How to reset user options and registry settings in Word.

    Hi Joe!

Looks like the normal.dot was corrupted. I deleted all instances I could find (server-based profiles) and restartet the machine. Voila!
