DVD won't play (XP )

Edit:

No mind... I tried it in Real Player and got a version o0f the same error, and they say it's either a corrupt video driver, audio driver, or you can't play it on your system...

Short version: Could be anything.

I'll poke around.

What is it when I get an error trying to play a DVD that says the copy protection failed, trying to authenticate key failed?

I wanted to get a screen shot but couldn't as the screen locked on the message box.

Hi Chuck,

Whether these links will help or not, I don't know. But I'm feeling lucky...

See:
Why do I receive the error message "Key exchange for DVD copy protection failed" when I try to play a DVD with RealPlayer?
and
Key exchange for DVD copy protection failed

Cheers

PS:
I see you have a new key, the Chuck Key. I guess that key can get you in anywhere??!!
I took away the white background if you like it this way.

Rudi:

I checked them both out... no luck.

I backed up my system, and restored an image that is just the hardware (and SP-2, Leif).

Then I ran WinUpdate to see if there were hardware updates as the one note suggested. None there.

Wouldn't run. I installed DivX -- which had worked before on this hardware -- no luck,

Now I am confused. I've viewed video on this machine before... same equipment.

In the second link above, the "FIX" was to get a NEW DVD player as the one having issues was OLD.

NOW, how old is your DVD Player/burner?
Check with the OEM and see if it should be able to play DVD's.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Try to download and install K-Lite Codec Pack:

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...Codec_Pack.htm

Use its Media Player Classic to watch your DVDs without a problem.

The K-lite pack did the trick!

Niot at all sure of the (possible?) adjustments, as I'm am not at all conversant with video files/formats.

But ti worked, so not to worry.

Thanks!

Some codec must've gotten broken along the way...
