Search Problem (XP SP2)

For some unknown reason my search from Windows Explorer will not find anything when I use the *.cgf to search for. I can see that some of them do exist but I was looking for a particular date that may have gone to a different location.
I have settings search C:, files and folders, all sub folders and Dont Remember in size and date.

Anybody help?

Do you really mean
*.cgf
or did you intend to search for
*.cfg
?

Yes cgf is what I was looking for.
Recently I also tried *.txt in a particular folder. I got a listing for a file that was not there but search did not find several others that showed in Explorer.

Do you also have search for "hidden files and system foldersfiles" checked?

There is an item at #136 on the left at Troubleshooting Windows XP, Tweaks and Fixes for Windows XP that might be worth a run. YMMV...

Are you using Search Companion or Windows Desktop Search?

A couple of answers,
Yes I do have search all files & folders checked.
Not sure what you mean by Search Companion. But I get the same problem whether I search from the Start Menu or from File Explorer.

Re: Search Problem (XP SP2)

The item Big Al suggested was very much worth a run. It fixed the problem.
It is strange;
1. I can't imagine how it got changed!
2. I would have thought that a value of 000 would mean don't filter!
3. In any case I cant imagine that .txt could be an unknown extension.

Oh, I sure hate computers at times!!!
But thanks a lot.
