    Video-Audio size comparison

    Evening –

I downloaded an audio extractor thinking I would save disk space over video clips of same song. Boy, am I mistaken:
The video clip, under properties, is 17.5 MSB, and 17,969 kb.
The audio clip (WAV) same selection is, under properties, 41.0 MB and 42,084 kb.

Why should audio be so much ‘hungrier’?

    Thank you.

The video clip is probably highly compressed. A .wav file is uncompressed. If you convert it to a compressed audio format such as .mp3, the file size will be *much* smaller.

Further to what Hans has offered, the way audio and video files are compressed are very different , it is a science in itself and you may want to have a look at the following:

    Video compression and

    Audio data compression

    Hans -

Didn't realize I could choose the mp3 option. Of course it does what you suggest - much smaller file size.

    Again, my thanks.
