managing multiple websites (FP2000 (4.02.6625))

Hi folks.

I have one quite extensive website that I created in FP2000 some time back - lots of files etc. Recently, I've begun work on a second site, and am struggling to find a way to manage the two sites.

Currently, I've just opened the second site in My Webs and named it, but it appears as a sub-web (I think) of my first site. I haven't tried to publish the new web yet, so maybe everything will work fine and there'll be no confusion between the two sites for publication purposes, but personally, it is disturbing me to see the new site folder in amongst all the files relating to the first web.

Also, when I open up the new web, sometimes when I go to navigation view the first site appears and I have to mess around closing it, then finding and opening the navigation view for the new site.

I'm thinking it shouldn't be like this. I'm sure there's a neat way to manage multiple sites in FP2000, and keep them entirely separate so that when you open one you don't see any files relating to the other. I would really appreciate some advice on how others go about managing multiple sites.

Cheers all.

Hi there

It sounds like you have created your new website within the root folder of the original and will cause ultimate confusion in the end.

Normally it is done like this:

1) File | New | Web
2) Choose the Web Template, then
3) Specify the location where you want to publish your new web i.e. C:My DocumentsMy WebsRoss)
4) OK

However it sounds like you have done this already so you will have to move out the new folder to a new location. Open up Windows Explorer and move the whole folder containing the new web site and place it in a new location outside of the original root folder, now:

1) File | Open Web...
2) Navigate to the newly positioned folder

I have a feeling this will solve your problem

Hi Jezza,

Apologies for this belated response. I've been distracted by another intensive project and have only now gotten back to my dilemma with my new website as detailed in my opening post on this thread.

I've followed your suggestions to the letter, and so far so good - it appears to have resolved the messy issues I was experiencing in having another website mixed up with this new one. Hopefully, this is the end of the matter. Thanks a lot for your assistance and wisdom.

Cheers
Ross
