Clip Brd (WinXp Home)

Just went looking for my Clip Board or as I understand on XP it is now called "ClipBook Viewer. I Googled that and found a Microsoft directory that showed how to get it. (Dated in 2006) Like so many of M/S things it doesn't work. I typed in " %windir%system32clipbrd.exe" and it came up "Can't find that"

Any GOOD ideas?

What happens if you select Start | Run..., just type

clipbrd

and press Enter or click OK?

I think you've gotta type clipbrd.exe. See if that helps...

See if you can find clipbrd.exe in the folder C:WindowsServicePackFilesi386. If so, copy it to C:WindowsSystem32.

BTW, why do you want to use it? The version in Windows XP is very limited.

No, that isn't necessary. You can always omit the extension of executable files such as .exe, .com and .bat. Try entering mspaint or calc in the Run box.

And you could also see if it indeed should be there, i.e. is it installed. Control Panel, Add and Remove programs, Add and Remove Windows components. It's sorted under accessories.

But as Hans says; a search on the PC could also be good. Maybe it's (somehow) located in a folder not in the path, thus not found when you try to run it at Start | Run.

Hi Hans,
"See if you can find clipbrd.exe in the folder C:WindowsServicePackFilesi386."

I understand what your suggestion is, good. But not everyone has ServicePackFilesi386 folders. I for instance slipstreamed my XP CD with SP2 and installed from the resulting CD. Others may have a Windows XP SP2 CD as their original install media. What I'm trying to say is that I think those folders comes when installing Service pack 2 on top the existing Windows XP.

In my case it's found, as you say, in ...System32 and the folder for protected files, i.e. C:WindowsSystem32dllcache, but only in those two places due to a slipstreamed install.

Thanks, that's a good point - I do indeed have an installation with SP2 on top of SP1.

(I assume that if clipbrd.exe is not found in the System32 folder, it won't be in the DLLCache folder either, but I might be wrong).

Re: Clip Brd (WinXp Home)

Thanx for all the prompt replies.
Hans I'm not sure whyinhell I even went looking for it now.
Argus I got into the dll cache and found clb.dll, clicked on that but the warning was enough to scare me off.
So now I'll just go along with the old adage "If it's working well, don't screw with it."
Again - Muchas Gracias.

clb.dll is definitely *not* the same as clipbrd.exe - in general, you shouldn't try to "open" or "run" a .dll file.

Ref post 690,073. Yep I looked there and it is not installed.
So much for M/S bulletin on HOW TO INSTALL or FIND Clip Board/CLIPBOOK VIEWER.

Thanx all and this should write FINIS to this thread.
