    Security Warnings (OE 6)

How come in some e-mail, if I click a link, I'll get a message box asking if I really want to connect to the (internet) link, but in some I do not?

I've checked both my OE Security and my IE tab, but see no setting to adjust or change this.

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

Just a guess but have you flagged any senders as trusted? That may get around the connection question.

    Joe:

    That's what's so strange:

I haven't flagged ANY as trusted... so why do only some cause the warning message?

    Chuck,
Can you post a screenshot of the actual message?

These that are giving the security warning are they being sent as a "link" or are the a message with a link?

The send link will generate this warning.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Bob:

    Below is the message box.

    Dave:

I'm not real sue what you're asking. They are (most usually) site links, like you'd find in a newsletter (a report shown yesterday from [site link here] ...

Then when I press the link, I get the message.

    Dave:

So if I'm getting this warning anytime I click a link in an e-mail, there's no way to turn that off or mark it as safe, or ...

If you click "allow interaction" does that set the option for just that one time or will it "stick"?

See Tutorials-Win.com >> IE >> Messages with OE and IE 7 - Microsoft Windows Forum which you started on another site back in September 2007.

    Re: Security Warnings (OE 6)

    Joe/Bob:

I did look at the link, Joe, and I do have my settings to restricted, and it still happens.

Bob, in coming to this post to respond to your answer, I got to see another piece to the puzzle:

In my e-mail showing the WOPR response, if I click the link back to this post, it goes right through. If however I click the link that you, Joe, used in your post, I get the "Security question" again.

    Now, why would that be?

    Regards,
    Chuck

    Re: Security Warnings (OE 6)

Could it be the difference between how the URL's are presented in your incoming emails? (I'm guessing you receive them in HTML format.)

If you click on a link that is not 'hidden' - i.e. you see the actual URL you will go to in the link - is that any different from clicking on a link that could be disguised?

    Try:
    1] http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/showflat.p...e&Number=690424
    and
    2] A hidden link

    Any difference?

    Re: Security Warnings (OE 6)

    Leif:

Both of your "Try"'s gave me a warning. But the page link at the top of the email

Leif replied to your post on the Outlook Express / Windows (Live) Mail board at Woodys:
    'Re: Security Warnings (OE 6)'.
DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL! Click the next line to go to the Lounge:

    did and does not.

    Go figure.

And again, this didn't start until I started using IE 7.

    Re: Security Warnings (OE 6)

Go figure what does 'did and does not' mean?

It did give you a warning?
Or it does not give you a warning?

From what you say, it would appear to be linked to security settings in IE7 then - so have you tried reducing them until you don't get a warning?

    Re: Security Warnings (OE 6)

    Leif:

    I'm sorry

The link to this page at the top of the message (and every WOPR message) does work and did not give me a warning.

I did t try the links with everything unloaded -- firewall, AV, everything.

No, I didn't try reducing the settings. I already "ease them up" a bit, allowing mixed data, etc., and that didn't help. I'' try the lower settings.

    Regards,
    Chuck

    Re: Security Warnings (OE 6)

    Leif:

    I apologize.

I turned the Security settings down to Medium and then all links worked without warnings. Then I turned it back up to Md-High... and all the links still worked.

    (*%(*%^()*&^)(*&.

I must have "tripped" something in my changes. I'll try to track the individual change down...

    Sorry for all the hassle... Guess I need more Vitamin C?! <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

    Thanks for your patience.
