    Network Printing (vista home premium)

I have a home network comprised of 3 desk tops and one laptop. Two desktops run Win XP and one plus laptop run Win Vista. The laptop connects wireless. I also have 3 printers (one laser and two Color) connected to one of the XP machines and all are shared. All programs on all four machines can print to any printer on the network except for IE and Firefox on the laptop. Neither of the programs recognize that a printer is installed on the machine.
When I try to print from either of these programs it says that I first need to install a printer.

Can you print from the Vista machine using Word, Notepad or any other program?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

To install your Shared Printer on your Vista computer do the following:

    1. Go to Control Panel
    2. Double click on Printer
    3. Click on Add Printer
    4. Select Add a Local Printer
    5. Click on Create a new port
    6. Select Local Port from drop down list (this is the default setting … don’t change it)
    7. Click Next
    8. A box will appear asking you to create a port name. Type in
    computernameprintername
where “computername” is the name of the computer that has the printer physically installed, and “printername” is the sharing name you assigned to the printer.
    9. Press OK and follow prompts to select your printers driver from list.
    10. Wait for install to complete and print a test page.

Yes I can print from the laptop using any program except IE and Firefox. It does not make a lot of sense. I have word, wordperfect, excell, quicken, pinacle, and much more and they all print from the laptop. All programs on the other vista and xp machines print fine. I only have problems with IE and Firefox on the wireless machine (the laptop).

Can you print from IE or Firefox to another printer - e.g. to create a pdf.
(If you don't have a pdf printer, try <!post=pdfCreator, 552603>pdfCreator<!/post>)
