Question about tabbed worksheets in Microsoft Word

    Hi,

I have hundreds of word files that each have the same six parts. I would love to set up a template with 6 tabbed worksheets (the same way that you can in Excel). Does anyone know how to do this? Or does anyone know a third party software that does this?

I know that Lotus Word Pro has this capability (and has had it for years), but I would really like to convert these files to Word as we are not in the 1990s anymore and it is more and more difficult to share data on Word Pro.

    Thanks for any help.

    Steve

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

This is not possible in Microsoft Word, it simply wasn't designed that way. For this reason I also don't think that there are third-party add-ins to Word that add this capability.

There may be other word processors that offer this feature, but they would have the serious disadvantage that they are not Word... <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Are these six parts clearly defined e.g. as separate sections? If so, it might be possible to build something around the lines of the Tabbed Interface for Word.

Thanks for spending the time - but I'm afraid that the tabbed interface method doesn't really work (I've been using it). I normally have a number of multiple documents open at any given time cutting and pasting from section 3 of doc. X to section 3 of doc. Y; and on - so it's sort of unwieldly.

    But I appreciate your answer.

If the goal is easier navigation, you could create a simple toolbar with section numbers and a macro behind that brings that section into view. (For Word 97-2003; for 2007, I suspect that would not be so simple.)

I don't quite follow what you're wanting. Do you want to see all 6 parts of several documents at once? With all tabs of all documents accessible from within the same window?
