Which e-mail program are you using? The Windows Mail that came with Windows Vista, or another one?

I don't know if there is a really easy solution. You can try downloading and installing the hotfix mentioned in Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer that is running Windows Vista. If that doesn't work, the article describes some other solutions, but they are rather technical.

Thanks. Actually, the message had been sent and received and Outbox is clear. I will search for a solution to my particular issue.

Even though you have a message stuck in Sent Items instead of Outbox, you might still try the suggestions from the link I posted.
