    XML documents- delete?

    Hi -

    Are XML documents okay to delete? When I was looking for temp files to delete (in Run, typed %temp%) the results showed 11 such docs;
    In Search, when I typed *.xml, 116 XML documents showed up.

    Thanks, as always,
    Acer

    It depends. In general, files in your Temp folder can be deleted safely (make sure that no applications are active when you do this). I'd be very careful with .xml files in other folders; if you don't know what they are for I'd leave them alone. Recent versions of MS Office, for example, store some settings in XML files.

    Thank you, Hans.

    I was surprised to see the 116 show up. 'Knowing' that items in the Temp folder can [most often] be safely deleted, I thought I'd ask before doing anything destructive.

    More and more software all the time is using XML to save configuration data or templates or almost anything. If the remaining 105 files are not in your temp folder you ought to leave them alone.
