    'subtract' networkdays (2003)

    Hi All,

I am trying to work a schedule back from a delivery date.

Suppose my delivery date is 31-Oct-2008 (which may or may not be a workday). The task leading up to this date needs 10 WORK days. So I need to be able to subtract 10 WORK days from 31-Oct-2008 (or the last workday before this) and get a start date for that task. Similarly working backwards from the start date of this task, which is the end date of the previous task, I need to subtract some number of work days to get the calendar day of the start of the previous task. Etc.

I guess I could do this manually by starting with the last task and subtracting the number of work days as calendar days and adjust accordingly. This seems too painful.

    Any ideas on this?

    TIA

    Fred

Activate the Analysis Toolpak add-in (in Tools | Add-ins).
This makes the WORKDAY function available. Syntax:

    =WORKDAY(start_date,number_of_days)

If you also want to take holidays into account, fill a range with holidays and specify the range as third argument:

    =WORKDAY(start_date,number_of_days,holiday_range)

See the built-in help for more info.

where was that little function hiding? I guess under the W's in the Date & Time functions. I looked at Networkdays but didn't recognize what Workday could do for me.

    Thanks.
