    XP 2002 SP2

Hello, I already have AVG, Spybot, Ad-Aware 2007& Zone Alarm squatting side by side on my HD are there any benefits of downloading the free Avast Home Edition or are there ample sentries on guard to let me sleep with ease? Thanking You Rupert

Welcome to Woody's Lounge, Rupert (?)

AVG is an anti-virus program and Avast! too. You should *not* run two anti-virus programs on your computer, they will conflict with each other. Unless you are dissatisfied with AVG, i would stay with it and not install Avast!

Many thanks Sir Hans, so I take it that it is ok to allow the others mentioned to reside alongside each other on the HD? Rupert B

A qualified yes. Spybot & Adaware are spyware prevention & detection tools. Multiple tools for detection and prevention of spyware can be a good thing if used properly as one tool probably will not identify all the variations of spyware. AVG is primarily know for its anti-virus product. ZoneAlarm is primarily known for its firewall product. Now though, as with many other security vendors AVG & ZoneAlarm both have suites which contain much more than the original product for which they became well known. So, you must be careful in talking about, purchasing, & installing security software these days as there can be much overlap in functionality.

Yep Hans Just two of the many pseudonyms I use on forums, it adds to the mystery & keeps one on the toes regarding memory. Regarding secrecy and confidentiality [as I discovered some time ago by simply typing some details into Google] there is none these days especially if one dabbles in this sort of hobby as anyone will know who has come across the following page on Wikipedia which is there for anyone to read. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ECHELON. Sorry for digressing from the topic. Thanks again Dave.
