Opening Outlook Attachment (outlook 2003 sp-3)

I received an email with photos as attachments. If I try to open them, picture manager opens and displays a whole page of icons. I have to save the attachment and then open it separately. Where can I go to make changes so I can actually open the attachement in outlook?

    Thanks,

    Mike

If a picture has been inserted into the body of an e-mail, you should be able to see it in Outlook. But if the picture has been attached to the e-mail, you can't view it in Outlook itself. It'll open in the application associated with the file type.

(Edited by jscher2000 on 29-Jan-08 17:21. )
This is a global setting in Windows, I believe. To change the program that handles JPG files, try the File Types dialog. Select JPG in the listbox, then click the Change... button and choose your preferred program. Does it help?

Added: To get to this dialog, open Windows Explorer or My Computer. Tools menu, Folder Options...

I still get the same screen even when changing the program to open the jpg file. i get a whole page of rectangular icons. I have to right click the attachment and do a file save as and save the file. Then I can open it. I used to be able to just double click the attached photo and it would open. Now it doesn't.

You could also check the Advanced button, look at the Open action or the default action, and select a new program there as well. If that doesn't help, perhaps there is an Outlook add-on that is changing the default behavior.
