    PowerDesk 6

I have installed PowerDesk v6.0.1.3 after reading the thread at <post:=8,749>post 8,749</post:>
    Looks good.
If anyone else has PowerDesk installed and can see a way to place a "New Folder" button on the toolbars, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

My preference was to have such a button on Windows XP Explorer, but this appears not to be possible.
In Windows XP Explorer I can drag the Copy and Paste buttons to the toolbar, but two clicks makes a copy of the folders and contents, doesn't just copy a blanl folder.
There appears to be no way in PowerDesk to customize the toolbar with copy/paste.

It has always puzzled me that a New Folder icon was not a customizable View option in Explorer. Thanks!

    <img src=/S/weep.gif border=0 alt=weep width=21 height=16> that would be really handy here at work.

Under Options select Customize Toolbar. PowerDesk is highly configurable in all sorts of unexpected places, so you may like to spend some time exploring things like options and tools. There is no need to leave the program to get it.

I agree. The attached shows the create folder icon for PD4. Last time I installed PD6 it overrode PD4's settings (presumably using the same registry keys), so I won't try to install it again, but I'm sure it must be there.

    Re: PowerDesk 6

I noticed you are running an older version of PD6. My copy is 6.0.3.4 which is (AFAIK) the latest version. Downloadable from the website accessible via the Help menu.

Anybody else running PD6 under Vista? I am really disappointed with its performance. It often "goes away" and becomes unresponsive for 20-30 seconds, especially when it is first opened or when moving to a new folder. Also, the small icons in the left column of the Details view are invisible after moving to a new folder. Only by pressing F5 to refresh the display are they visible. Anybody else see the same behaviour? It's *almost* enough to make me ditch PD6 after many years and revert to the inferior Windows Explorer.

    Re: PowerDesk 6

I don't have time to fiddle with it at present, but here is a bit from my experiences.

When you first install it you are given an opportunity to select certain file associations, and the choices you make there may affect all that follows. PowerDesk uses a version of Stuffit for certain operations, and if you have the latest standalone version of Stuffit you might run into conflicts. The useful Preview function will not allow you to preview Office 2007-formatted files (e.g. *.docx, but it is fine for *.doc). Options/Preferences/Detail/View is another useful feature, but in order to use it after making the selections, I think you may have to click on View/Details for each pane that you are viewing. Synchronize folders is an excellent tool that can compete with most if not all standalone programs for that purpose. I found that I was unable update mine to the latest version under Vista, but there are a many possible reasons for that, and I may get it yet. The program has too many useful features to abandon, and even some Microsoft programs have trouble running under Vista.
