Firewall & Anti-Spyware (Vista Home Premium)

    Hi All!
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I need both a Firewall and an Anti-Spyware program running on my machine. Will a Firewall (like Zone Alarm) keep out Spyware?
    Thanks for any advice.

A firewall by itself will not keep out spyware, so you need both a firewall and anti-spyware software (as well as anti-virus software).

Many security products provide allround protection nowadays; for example, Symantec (aka Norton) AntiVirus includes anti-spyware and a basic firewall, so check what you already have. The free version of the ZoneAlarm firewall is just a firewall, but ZoneAlarm Pro and ZoneAlarm Security Suite include anti-spyware.

Thank you, Hans, for your quick reply. I am currently running AVG Anti-Virus, CounterSpy, and Zone Alarm. Is that sufficient?
    Best regards,

You are protected in each of the three major areas, so that should be sufficient.

I also like SpywareBlaster. It doesn't "run" on your PC, but it prevents suspect websites from installing rubbish on your PC. You only need to keep it updated regularly.
