Document name or path is not valid (Word 2002 XP SR3)

I have a Word document on opening up I get the message "The document name or path is not valid."

I open up the doc in WordXP or Word 2007 I still get the message.

In Windows Explorer, if I select the file, right mouse click, and select Save As... In the Save As dialog, the default "Save As type" is Word 2007 Macro-enabled document (*.docm).

This gives me a better understanding of the doc's orginal format. If I change Save As type to Word 2007 document (*.docx), click Save. The message "The convertor failed to save the file".

    any ideas?

Did you create the document yourself, or did someone else create it - in Word 2007, I presume? If the latter, could you ask the author to convert it to Word 97-2003 format for you?

    Hi Hans

We have Office 2007 for the purpose of incoming 2007 docs to convert to Word 97- 2003 format.

I couldnt open in Office 2007.

The person mentioned it was an internally created doc. and from an external doc they copied and pasted paragraphs into the main doc.

If I use the option Files of type "Recover Text from Any file (*.*)" the file opens with recovered text.

Ive downloaded OpenOffice and see if the file opens with formatting in tact

    Hans

The document opened up using OpenOffice and retained most of the formatting. I Saved As into Word XP version, and managed to open up the file using Office 2002-XP. Just to be safe I ran an open & repair over the doc

    Thanks Han

I'm glad that you managed to salvage (most of) the document. I wonder what happened to the document that it couldn't be opened in its native application (Word 2007).
