    Temperamental Laptop

    Hi,

I have been given a laptop by a friend to look at.

It is a Fujitsu Amilo Pentium 4 one. It has this annoying fault that sometimes you can turn it on and it will boot up fine. Other times when you turn it on, it can take 30 minutes until you get the beep and then it will boot up fine.

I have tried re-seating the memory modules and cd drive, and possibly the hdd, but still no joys.

Anyone have any pointers for what could be the culprit?

    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,

    Luke

Are the long startup delays occuring when the machine is booted up first time for the day or later in the day, perhaps when the machine is still warm fro it's previous session ???

Are removable media mounted at the time there is a problem? E.g., CD or floppy disk. If the boot sequence goes to removable media first, there might be a problem there.
