No Printers! (XP Media Center v2002SP2)

There are no longer any printers in Printers and Faxes Control Panel. Tried to uninstall and reinstall HP printer OJ4215. System tray shows printer detected but still not in control panel. Also when click on Add Printer Wizard nothing happens. services.msc shows print spooler and RPC and RPC Locater are started. Help! Thanks!!

Did you use device manager to uninstall the printer? Did you re-boot after uninstalling? Is the printer USB or network?

Used Add Remove Programs and HP's Remove Tool. When connect to USB the model is detected but the installation doesn't complete to add to printers and faxes control panel. There are no printers in the control panel and when you click on Add Printer, the wizard doesn't start (nothing happens).

You need to get the software and driver and do a INSTALL before connecting the printer to the computer.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Yeah I know about reinstalling software first. But I've been through that route several times. I thought the fact that the Add Printer Wizard doesn't start whether or not anything is connected might be a clue. Anyway unless you've got some file corruption (already tried replacing spoolsv.exe) or registry fix in mind, I guess I'll just reformat and reinstall.

The sequence I've had the best luck with on USB devices is 1. turn the USB device off and unplug it (note: if this is a removable storage device use right click & "eject" before powering device off) 2.) uninstall the software, 3.) shut down completely 4.) restart the PC. 5.) install the software. 6.) Attach the device and power it on.
